The OA fans are still expecting season 3! Here’s what we know so far.

The infamous Netflix show ‘The OA’ is still being expected to renew for season 3. The show was meant to run for five seasons. However, Netflix cancelled the show after second season. Hence, it summed up with a cliff-hanger ending and left the viewers wanting for more. Learn more about The OA that brought an internet protest.

About The OA

The American mystery drama “The OA” is a blend of supernatural, science fiction and fantasy genre. It is created by Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij. This 2016 Netflix drama revolves around Prairie Johnson. She somehow resurfaces after being vanished for seven years. Her sudden re appearance raises so many questions. Subsequently, she informs people that there are other missing people out there alive. She tries to save other missing people by opening a portal to the other dimension. Prairie names herself the OA that stands for ‘Original Angel’.

The first part of the series starts with Prairie coming back after seven years of being missing. She decides to go on a search mission to save people who were held hostages with her. The second season deals with more turns in the story. It is the depiction of the story in other dimension. It takes Prairie to San Francisco, where she looks for her fellow captives and her former captor. In the end, she ends up in a whole new dimension with Hap.

Cancellation of The OA

In 2018, Netflix Vice President of Original Series, Cindy Holland said, “I think from the very beginning, when Brit and Zal pitched us a five-season arc. We sat at the edge of our seats when they started talking about Season 2. I’ve seen some early cuts and the fans will be very happy.”

Later, The OA season 2 was released in March 2019 and people started waiting for season 3. But then on August 5, 2019, Netflix cancelled the series after two seasons. Certainly, Netflix was uncertain about whether new seasons will bring in more viewers.

Upon cancellation, Holland said, “We are incredibly proud of the 16 mesmerizing chapters of The OA. We are grateful to Brit and Zal for sharing their vision… We look forward to working with them again in the future, in this and perhaps many other dimensions.”

Consequently, fans were very upset. They responded with a #SaveTheOA and #TheOAisReal campaign on Twitter. Also a petition was signed by people demanding renewal of the show. In addition, fans also posted a video of themselves performing ‘The Movements’ from the show. Brit Marling also wrote about how overwhelmed she was.
