ps5 & ps4

Good news for Play Station’s lovers, a fan must be aware of Sony’s upcoming Play Station 5. As per the sources, PS 5 and its digital edition will be available in November 2020. Certainly, gamers all around the world are the happiest people these days. They had been longing for the new console and revelation of PS 5’s features. And recently, their wait was finally over as Sony announced the features of PS 5.

Although the new console has made the gamers excited, what will be its impact on Play Station 4?

A little about Play Station 4

Play Station 4 is the predecessor of the upcoming PS 5. It was launched worldwide in November 2013. Play Station 4 was critically acclaimed for being as per the consumers’ needs and not imposing restrictive schemes. By October 2019, PS 4 was recorded to be the second best selling home video game console of all time. Above all, PS 4 was praised for its capabilities compared to its competitors such as X-box.

Impact of Play Station 5 on Play Station 4

In 2018, it was reported that PlayStation 4 was heading into the end of its life cycle, as stated by Sony’s CEO John Kodera. Moreover, the company had anticipated yearly decrease in hardware sales. He said, “We will use the next three years to prepare the next step, to crouch down so that we can jump higher in the future,” No doubt, Play Station 5 is the improvised system that Sony was planning to launch and aim higher. Hence, it will obviously impact the Play Station 4, even though it was one of the best at its time.

Above all, Play Station boss Jim Ryan confidently stated in an interview, that Play Station 5 will be more successful than Play Station 4. Sony believes Play Station 5 will be sold more in the first five months, than any other Sony console. Jim Ryan said, “We think the PS5 will sell more in its first fiscal year than it sold in the first fiscal year at the time of PS4 launch.” Therefore, if we talk in numbers, 7 million units Play Station 4 had sold by April 2015. Certainly, Ryan is expecting a higher sale than that.

Sony cleared the doubt about PS 4

As the Play Station 5 went out of stock in its first pre-order sale, clearly the new console is high on demand. Hence, Sony might be occupied with Play Station 5 for a while. That raises the question of ‘What will happen to PS 4?’.  Apparently, in July 2020, Sony confirmed that Play Station 4 won’t go anywhere, even after the release of PS 5. Eric Lempel, the head of Play Station global marketing said, “PlayStation 4 is a big part of everything we do and will continue to be a big part of everything we do; there’s a lot more to come on PlayStation 4.”

Also, Jim Ryan stated they have further plans for Play Station 4. He said that Sony will continue to support PS 4, three to four years after the launch of PS 5. Although Sony hasn’t announced any particular plans for the PS4, provided the focus on PS5 launch, it is clear Ps4 will not go anywhere. The PS 4 game is secure for at least for now, till the upcoming years.
