Rumors: Apple iPad Pro 2018 will have rounded corners, no notch or audio jack

Rumors and leaks with respect to the upcoming Apple iPad Pro are all over the place with leaks frequently publishing on the web thereby helping clear the picture on how the product will actually look before an official announcement could be made. 9to5Mac has been doing some digging into the source code of iOS 12 beta 5 that was recently unveiled where it found a number of bits which could help us join the dots to perceive how the iPad Pro could actually look.

According to 9to5Mac, the upcoming iPad Pro might have rounded corners with a thin bezel and no notch. There will be no home button as well. The report found an asset named J3XX which is indeed the upcoming iPad Pro. Although this is a bit of information picked up from beta iOS 12, it’s possible that the actual iPad Pro could change.

It is confusing how an iPhone X-like edge-to-edge display on iPad Pro with a facial recognition system that is being speculated could be released with a notch. It is because iPhone X has a notch to house its facial recognition system so the absence of notch is still intriguing. Further, we already know that the FaceID on iPad Pro will work on horizontal mode due to previous leaks.

Apple will reduce the size of the bezel around all the edges in order to resemble iPhone X (2017) which is something Apple will follow in 2018 iPhone models lineup estimated to launch in September as well. Further, a previous leak suggests that iPad Pro will be available in two different size variants i.e. 10.5-inch and 12.9-inch iPad Pro where the former is speculated to sport an 11-inch bezel-less display.

The overall size of a 10.5-inch iPad Pro has been dropped from 250.6 x 174.1 x 6.1mm to 247.5 x 178.7 x 6mm while the size for the bigger 12.9-inch variant has been dropped from 305.7 x 220.6 x 6.9mm to 280 x 215 x 6.4mm. The 2018 iPad Pro will not have a 3.5mm audio jack and the Cupertino-based company wouldn’t ship lightning-to-3.5mm adapter in the box as well.
