Marvel is now bringing its big guns to the small screens, with an array of big names like Loki, Wanda, and Falcon and the Winter Soldier getting their own TV shows, after having appeared in a bunch of Avengers movies. The release of these shows will all be a major television event, since although there are other Marvel-based shows out there, none have ever been directly linked to, or featured characters that were actually a part of their flagship movie franchises. Considering the characters these shows are based on, it is safe to assume that there will be massive funding backing up their production, meaning longer and better action sequences and special effects – something most TV adaptations lack in due to a lack of funding.
The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will follow the story of Steve Roger’s best friends Sam Wilson, aka Falcon, and Bucky Barnes, aka the Winter Soldier, after the events of Endgame.
Here’s what we know about it so far.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Release Date
Initially set to air on Disney’s streaming service Disney+ earlier in August this year, the studio had to postpone the release date to sometime in 2021. The reason for this being that filming for the show had come to an abrupt stop due to the onset of COVID-19 and the lockdowns.
If we’re lucky, the cast and crew will manage to wrap filming, which resumed in July, in the upcoming months, and treat us to an early-to-mid 2021 release, but at this point, that’s just wishful thinking.
However, while you are patiently waiting, treat yourself to this trailer for all the upcoming shows that will be going to release earlier this year:
Plot
After Steve decides to head back in time and live a regular life post the events of Endgame, he entrusts his buddy Sam with his iconic shield. The Falcon and The Winter soldier will take place in a world still reeling from the effects of the Snap, a world without Iron Man or Captain America.
It is now all up to Sam and Bucky to fill the void left by Steve, although it doesn’t seem like the Falcon will be taking the mantle of Captain America anytime soon since, as has been confirmed, the show will initially have Wyatt Russel’s US Agent taking up that role. It seems that Sam still has a lot of work to do before the people accept HIM as the next Cap.
The show will also give us a new take on Sebastian Stan’s Bucky Barnes character, who in the movies has more or less always been a fugitive and anti-hero. We might finally get a more in-depth look into his name as he works side by side with the good guys.
The Falcon and The Winter Soldier Cast
Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon
Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier
Wyatt Russel as John Walker/US Agent
Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter
