The story depicts time travel. The King: Eternal Monarch revolves around Lee Gon, the modern day Emperor of the Kingdom of Corea. In 1994, he witnessed the murder of his father by his uncle Lee Lim, who had a flute with supernatural powers. During all this, a mysterious figure appeared with a gun. Young Lee Gon escaped with Lee Lim’s broken flute and a police badge from the mysterious figure.

After 25 years, the incident still haunts King Lee Gon. Hence he wants to unveil who was that figure. Also, the badge was issued in November 2019 and it belonged to Lt. Jeong Tae Eul. She is a detective in the Violent Crimes Division at the Seoul Jongo Police Station. Anyways, Lee Gon attempts cross a portal to an alternate time into The Republic of Korea. Subsequently he comes across detective Jeong, Meanwhile, his father’s assassin Lee Lim is hiding and assembling a new army.
