watchmen season 2

Developed by Damon Lindelof, Watchmen is one of the most famous American superhero drama that was created for HBO. It has been adapted from the 1986 DC Comics series of the same name. The TV series stars Regina King, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Andrew Howard, Jacob Ming-Trent. Along with those, Tom Mison, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, and Louis Gossett Jr., in the lead roles, and Jeremy Irons, Jean Smart and Hong Chau as the supporting cast. Watchmen originally premiered on 20 October 2019 and had nine episodes in total. Ever since it hit the screens, Watchmen won several prestigious awards and 26 Primetime Emmy Award nominations.

Will There Be A Season 2 Of Watchmen?

Alas! Even after receiving heartfelt responses from its viewers, the makers of Watchmen decided to end it with chapter one itself. Watchmen originally created for only one season, and Lindelof quit his role as the showrunner after chapter one, stating the same. HBO decided not to continue with the show without Lindelof in their team. However, Regina King, in an interview, clears that she is up for a sequel if Lindelof in onboard too. Sadly, Lindelof stated that he “has no interest in a second season,” and it has broken the hearts of millions.

Why Did Lindelof Decide Not To Make Watchmen Season 2?

In an interview, Lindelof stated, “The legacy of Watchmen is Alan (Moore), and Dave (Gibbons) created it, and it sat for 30 years. Obviously Zack (Snyder) made his movie which was a pretty canonical adaptation of the 12 issues, and then we made our season of television. That was my turn. I got in the middle of the dance floor for a minute and got to make my move, but then you retreat to the edge of the circle, and it’s someone else’s turn to dance.”

Lindelof even added, “I’m not saying there shouldn’t be a second season of Watchmen, and I’m not even saying that that season shouldn’t feature some of the characters in this season of Watchmen. I don’t know what it should be.”

He summarized by saying, “I can’t say that there will not be a second season, and I can’t say there definitely will be. That’s kind of where my head’s at.”

We are as much heartbroken as the fans. We hope Lindelof to change his mind with regards to the sequel of Watchmen. Till then, Stay tuned to get an update on Watchmen and keep reading The TeCake.
