Jennifer Yuh Nelson’s ‘The Darkest Minds’ is a science fiction thriller set in a dystopian world. Based on Alexandra Bracken’s YA novel, fans are anticipating the sequel to the 2018 movie. Produced by 20th century Fox Studios, Yuh Nelson has helmed the franchise and she talks about the development of the sequel of Bracken’s novels into movies. She talked about it in an interview:
“There are quite a few more books in the series. But it is one of those things where … I have worked on franchises before and never in all of that time have I said, ‘We are gonna hold off on all of that stuff because we are gonna save it for the next movie.'”
Yuh Nelson told that she wants to work with the characters once again and that she wants to explore the other sequels in the franchise. This includes Alexander Brackens’ Never Fade’ and ‘In the Afterlight’, and three novellas, besides the original novel, The Darkest Minds. The young adult Scifi writer, herself makes a possible hint at the sequel to the 2018 movie and here’s what we know about the sequel.
The Darkest Minds 2: Plot
The second movie will obviously move beyond the scope of the first movie and the novel. It is highly likely that it will take on the plot from the second novel in the series, i.e., ‘Never Fade’.
The Darkest Minds 2 Cast
The mind-controlling orange-eyed teenager Ruby will likely return to the story.
The characters from the novel ‘The Darkest Minds’ who make an appearance in the sequel as Ruby Daly, Liam Stewart, Clancy Gray, and Chubs.
We can also expect Amandla Stenberg, Harris Dickinson, Patrick Gibson, and Skylan Brooks to make a return. The cast will also see several new faces.
We can expect Jennifer Yuh Nelson to be on board as the director of the movie. But nothing is certain. It is also possible that Chad Hodge might return as the scriptwriter.
The Darkest Minds 2 Release Date
Considering that ‘The Darkest Minds’ took 4 years to release on August 3, 2018, after it was taken up in 2014, it is the long wait for the sequel. As of now ‘Never Fade’ has not been accepted into the project, we cannot say anything about the sequel yet.
