Samsung teases its 'unbreakable' OLED panel after getting certified by UL

Samsung’s flexible OLED panel is finally here and it is unbreakable. Samsung Display which is the panel-making arm of Samsung Electronics recently demonstrated the durability of its foldable and flexible display in a video tagged here. It displays how the display withstood few pounds by hammer without any visible signs of damage. According to Samsung, it has received certification from Underwriters Laboratories (UL) which is an authority under the U.S. Department of Labor.

Samsung used a high-grade plastic substrate that provides the panel with its transmissivity, hardness, and lightweight. It survived 26 drops from a height of 1.2 meters or 4 feet and it was also subjected to drops of 1.8 meters which is higher than the U.S. military standard making Samsung’s display an unbreakable piece of the panel without any signs of damage. Further, it was also subjected to a high temperature as high as 71° and as low as -32°.

According to Samsung, the flexible OLED panel with unbreakable characteristics is not only limited to smartphones but can also be used for tablet PCs, portable game consoles, mobile military devices, automobiles and other sorts of display consoles. Samsung had also scrutinized and tested the new flexible panel for durability with more than 20,000 times folding and unfolding with no signs of damage whatsoever.

Samsung sources all its displays from its panel-making arm ‘Samsung Display’. It is estimated to unveil the unbreakable OLED display in the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Note 9 schedule for August 9 launch event. Further, Samsung has several other devices in the pipeline to launch such as the gaming-oriented Samsung Galaxy X or Galaxy F in early 2019 as well as the world’s first ever foldable OLED display smartphone expected to launch in the first half of 2019. It remains a question whether when Samsung will roll out the unbreakable display for all Samsung smartphones, wait for it because Samsung is known to tease about the new releases in pretty advance.

Although Samsung wants to unveil the first-ever foldable smartphone next year in 2019, it’s rival Huawei, a Chinese smartphone manufacturer, is speculated to launch the first-ever foldable smartphone along with BOE, a Chinese OLED panel maker which is among the top few panel makers to develop flexible displays. Both Huawei and BOE have their priority where the former wants to launch the first foldable smartphone ahead of Samsung’s while the latter wants to exercise its excellence and allow smartphone manufacturers such as Apple to join hands in order to supply quality OLED displays for its iPhones at inexpensive prices.
