Russian Doll is a mystery/comedy series directed by Leslye Headland, Jamie Babbit and Natasha Lyonne. For a show as short as Russian Dolls it is quite unprecedented to see how well the show did. The release was earlier this year on February 1st 2019 on Netflix. The show received a lot of praise and was rated very highly.
The show so far has one season with 8 episodes. With each episode having an average duration of between 25- 30 minutes. Rotten Tomatoes rated Russian Doll at an incredible 97% approval rate. The average rating came up at an 8.55/10 as well. It also won the Outstanding new Program award at the Television Critics Association Awards in 2019. Apart from that, the show was also nominated for four Primetime Emmy Awards.

What to expect from Russian Doll?
The premise of the show is about a woman stuck in a time loop and has to relive the same night over and over again. The woman is named Nadia and to clear up why she was stuck in the loop, she begins looking for answers. It is during this search when she meets a man named Alan Zaveri who seems to be stuck in the same situation as her. The show has plenty of star power with the likes of Natasha Lyonne and Greta Lee. Charlie Barnett features as Alan Zaveri along with Elizabeth Ashley who plays Nadia’s therapist. David Cale and Devin Ratray also feature as guest stars in the show.
Although the show is about a loop, it never gets repetitive and each 30-minute episode is filled with mystery and is extremely interesting to watch. Travelling through time is always a tough plotline to enact but Russian Doll hits the nail right on the head.
Can we expect to see a season 2?
On June 11th 2019, Netflix officially renewed the show for a second season. The shooting for the next season was delayed due to the present scenario the world is in. COVID-19 has had a negative effect on the entertainment industry and as a result, our wait for the new season has only gotten longer. Despite the long wait, the show will no doubt worth it. The show has the plot and all the makings to set it up for greatness and who knows what new surprises and twists await us in the next season! With the potential of the show in mind, the next season is definitely one to look out for.
