Riverdale Season 5 to premiere this January, showrunner Aguirre-Sacasa reveals

Riverdale, produced by Warner Bros. Television and CBS Television Studios is now officially updated for its fifth season. Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa got back to production with the cast and crew in mid-September. This American drama teen series will return for its next season in 2021.

Season 4 of the series was cut short owing to the coronavirus pandemic. With its finale episode in the 19th episode, the show ends with a major cliffhanger. The series is based on the very popular Archie Comics and had made its debut release on January 26, 2017. Here’s what you need to know about the fifth season of this series.

What can we expect from the coming season?

Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has confirmed that the fifth series of the show will debut in January 2021. Aguirre-Sacasa has also revealed that the coming season will begin on Prom Night, with an episode that was originally a part of season four but was cut short because of the pandemic.

As per the reports, Skeet Ulrich and Marisol Nichols will not make a return to the coming season. In the cast of the fifth season, we will have KJ Apa as Archie Andrews, Cole Sprouse as Jughead Jones, Lili Reinhart as Betty Cooper, and Camila Mendes as Veronica Lodge in the fifth season.

Former category Fangs Fogarty will return as Drew Ray Tanner. Aguirre-Sacasa announced, “We’re all thrilled he’s joining us for season five as a series regular, living with on-again, off-again boyfriend Kevin Keller and Serpent Queen Toni Topaz. Also happy to announce that we’ll see more of Drew SINGING”. A new character of Tabitha Tate will be played by Erinn Westbrook.

The fifth season will begin with Archie’s gang prom and Riverdale High graduation. There will be a time jump and the events will be fast-forwarded to almost 4-5 years this coming season.

Is the trailer of season 5 available?

As the series is still under production, the production team has not released the trailer yet. We can expect it to drop before the fifth season makes its debut release in January 2021.

Riverdale spin-off, Katy Keene is also now adapted as an upcoming project. You can catch up with the previous seasons of the CW series Riverdale on Netflix.
