‘Real steel’ 2: Release date, Cast and crew and Plot

Real Steal 2

It’s never-say-never land in Hollywood for the ever optimistic. I know all too well how desperately a sequel to ‘Real Steel’ is needed, a Robot-Rocky movie with a heartbeat and a father-son relationship in its middle. It’s under development, and that’s virtually what we’ve heard about the sequel over the better part of this decade, which has been almost two months away.

Let’s face it; having a Hollywood sequel isn’t as uphill a challenge as it used to be back in the day, with franchises built from a lacklustre fare left, right and centre. And with all the other movies out there having a sequel, I can fully understand how hard it must be for the fans of the first movie to keep up with expectations, particularly now, nine years since the first movie was released when there were still outspoken fans discussing the need for a sequel. Funny though, that takes me back to the days of the 2011 release of the film, where it turned out to be a surprise to every single one of us who went into the film with lowered hopes and came out with a smile on our faces.

The film proved to be more than everyone had imagined it to be from the promos, and melded futuristic science-fiction, even though it was a robot boxing tad, with a well-constructed plot, well-written actors, and real passion and a kickass soundtrack.

Strangely enough, the one sight of this film that doesn’t leave me is that Jackman is driving over his truck at sunset to the tunes of ‘All My Days’ performed by Alexi Murdock. In the memory of the same, I sincerely hope that the world will conspire for the sake of the ‘Real Steel’ sequel, but before then, here is all we know of the supposed sequel that has been under production for quite some time now.

Plot of Real Steel 2!

In the beginning, I’m only going to mention that there hasn’t been a total rejection of a sequel to the talks, considering the number of years that have passed. Nobody involved in the projects said that the sequel is definitely not going to happen, with director Shawn Levy also saying that he and Jackman have been working on and hoping for an acceptable sequel to the script.

“We’d better make it happen soon” is the key phrase here, because quite frankly, so nice so far, but a single movie franchise has all the odds of an audience expressing curiosity when a sequel comes out after a decade.

Moving to the plot, the first film, actually set in 2020, ended with Max and Charlie reconciling as father and son, while Atom, who technically lost the battle, was declared the people’s champion. The sequel should pick up after the real-time period that has existed since the first film was released, seeing as it would make little sense to set the film even five years from then on (2025), and also since Jackman and Goyo played Charlie and Max have aged considerably since then.

Cast of Real Steel 2!

Among his many films, Hugh Jackman has been quite outspoken about how much he enjoys this film, so we can safely assume that he would love to come back as Charlie along with Dakota Goyo as Max. Both Evangeline Lilly and Anthony Mackie were busy with the MCU and the latter, more so for the Netflix, but I would like to expect that all of them would love to come back to their roles if and when the sequel occurs.

Crew of Real Steel 2!

Needless to mention, because Shawn Levy has already confirmed that he’s been working on a script behind the scenes for as long as it can be, he’d be dreaming about returning as a producer. The more than a possible 10-year delay between the two films also means that, aside from Levy, we can not foresee other technicians working on the sequel.

Release date of Real Steel 2!

It’s just sad that the fans have been waiting for nine years now, but looking at the current possibilities for a sequel, I’d say there’s more waiting in store for the fans. Expect no less than the release date of 2022, even if Real Steel 2 comes into effect next year or so.
