PS5 backwards compatibility: Sony releases a list of PS4 games which you can’t play on PS5

Sony has now made an official announcement confirming the list of PS4 games that will be playable on the PS5. Hence PlayStation 5 is now backwards compatible, unlike its predecessor PS4.

Hence as PS5 is backwards compatible now, it will include a wide range of titles from PS4 library. As confirmed by Sony, an “overwhelming majority” of 4,000+ games on PS4 will be now playable on PS5.

Which of the PS4 games are not compatible with PS5?

According to Sony, 99% of the games will be compatible on the new console excluding some of them. Here’s a list of the PS4 games which you will not be able to play on PS5.

  • DWVR
  • Afro Samurai 2: Revenge of Kuma Volume One
  • TT Isle of Man – Ride on the Edge 2
  • Just Deal With It!
  • Shadow Complex Remastered
  • Robinson: The Journey
  • We Sing
  • Hitman Go: Definitive Edition
  • Shadwen
  • Joe’s Diner

As of now, Sony has released the above mentioned games incompatible with PS5 which is subject to more additions.

Sony has also released a disclaimer according to which the PS4 games may exhibit some errors or unexpected behavior when played on PS5.

The company also states to boot and play the PS4 games on the PS5 consoles before purchasing add-ons to see if the playing experience is worth it.

Which consoles will PS5 be backwards compatible with?

As per the reports, PS5 will only be natively backwards compatible with the games on PS4.

PlayStation head, Jim Ryan in a conversation with Famitsu (via Ars Technica) confirmed in September 2020, that PS5 is not going to natively support the discs of PS3, PS2 and PS1, hence PS5 will not be backwards compatible with them.

The accessories of PS4 accessories which will work with PS4 games on the console of PS5 are:

3)PS Move controllers
4) PlayStation VR Aim Controller
5) PlayStation Camera

In March 2020, at the PS5 system specs deep dive it was announced that almost all of the top 100 PS4 games will be playable on the PS5. Sony in September 2020, also released the PlayStation Plus collection.

So get ready for this new experience, as Sony is detailing on PS5 backwards compatibility. It is all set to be compatible with over 4000 titles.
