Looming in the Shadows quest pitches you against the head of Team Rocket, Giovanni. Niantic reveals that you can encounter Giovanni one time a month.

What are the Research tasks and the rewards?
Task 1: The first set of challenge will be quite easy for you. You will have to spin 10 stops. After this you will have to take down 3 grunts. As you complete this, you will have to be vigilant enough to catch one Shadow Pokemon atleast.
For this you will earn 500 Stardust, 10x Poke Balls and 10x Razz Berries.
Task 2: This might be a little difficult for you. For this level, you will have to spin a Pokestop 5 days in a row for 750 XP. After this you will have to purify 15 Shadow Pokemon for 750 XP. You last talks will be to win 5 raids.
Your rewards include 1,000 Stardust, 3x Hyper Potions and 3x Revives.
Task 3: Getting trickier on each level, you will not lost your interest. This level will require your active performance as you have to use 6 supereffective Charged Attacks in Gym Battles for 1,000 XP. After this, win 3 Great League Trainer Battles where you will be pitched against another Trainer for 1,000 XP. Your last task is to defeat 6 Team GO Rocket Grunts.
You have the scope to win 1,500 Stardust, 15x Great Balls and 5x Pinap Berries.
Task 4: Your tasks include defeating three Team GO Rocket Leader: Arlo , Cliff and Sierra for 1250 XP each.
Your rewards are set as follows: 2,000 Stardust, 1x Super Rocket Radar and 3x Golden Razz Berries.
Task 5: As things get complicated, you will have to find, defeat and battle the Team Go Rocket Boss.
Your rewards include 3,000 Stardust, 1x Charged TM and 1x Fast TM.
Task 6: For this final set just sit back and look at your victory. It will already be completed and all you have to do is to collect your rewards.
Reap your exquisite rewards which includes 20x Ultra Balls, 3x Max Revives and 3x Rare Candies.
