Plies, born Algernod Lanier Washington is an American rapper and songwriter. Before he became a rapper, he played football for the Miami Redskins of the Miami University, Ohio, in 1996-97. His career in music started after he chose to drop out of college. He is known for his albums like The Real Testament with its songs Shawty and Hypnotized.

Plies was born on July 1, 1976, in the East Dunbar area of Fort Myers, Florida. He stands 1.65m high and is the father of Nijier Lanier Washington. He has been rapping since 2001 and has featured alongside big names in the hip-hop industry, such as DJ Khaled, Kodak Black, Ne-Yo, and Jeezy.
Early Life
Plies completed schooling at Myers Senior High School, where he played football as a receiver. He was the valedictorian of his high school class and was even named the Best Dressed student of his class.
He went to Miami University under the name of Nod Washington where he was a good football player, before moving to the University of Central Florida, from which he eventually dropped out.

What did Plies do for his career?
Plies along with his step-brother Ronnell Lawrence Lavatte, who uses the stage name Big Gates, started Big Gates Records in the 1990s, and independent record label of their own.
Under Big Gates Records, Plies often traveled to Miami, which is how he met his next employer, Slip-n-Slide Records in 2004.
His first album, The Real Testament, came out in 2007 with singles such as Shawty featuring T-Pain and Hypnotized featuring Akon. The songs respectively were numbers 1 and 3 on the Billboard Hot Rap Tracks chart and number 9 and 14 on The Hot 100.
Plies’ second album Definition of Real came out in 2008 and its song Bust it Baby Pt2 featuring Ne-Yo and hit number 2 on the Hot Rap Tracks chart and number 7 on the Hot 100. Plies released DaRealist that same year.
His fourth album came out on June 8, 2010, and was titled Goon Affiliated. Goon Affiliated debuted at number 5 on the Billboard Hot 200 and was far more successful than DaRealist.
Since then Plies has been releasing an occasional single now and again whilst also appearing as a guest in other people’s work.
