OnePlus rolls out Android Pie 9.0-based OxygenOS 9 for OnePlus 6

Just a few months after Chinese OEM OnePlus launched it’s OnePlus 6 premium range smartphone, it has officially launched the Android Pie 9.0-based OxygenOS 9.0 to all OnePlus 6 devices under the Google partnered program. Google unveiled the Android Pie 9.0 at the Google I/O 2018 after which, Essential Phones and Google Pixel devices received the update the same day when Android Pie was launched.

According to the timeline, first, partnered devices will receive the update followed by Android One and then, a public release will be initiated by Google, however, that doesn’t mean that smartphone manufacturers will release the update for their smartphones then and there. This has called a huge gap also known as OS fragmentation since only a handful of devices have actually received Android Oreo update which is the eighth iteration launched last year.

OnePlus promised about the faster Android Pie or to put in other words, faster software updates which have made it possible to receive three beta updates for Android Pie and now, a final and stable Android Pie 9.0-based OxygenOS 9.0 has been released that will be sent via OTA updates over this week but since OnePlus cares for its customers a lot, it has made it available on its Oxygen Updater app which you can download from the Play Store and check out the cool new update right now.

According to OnePlus, it will release the updates for OnePlus 5 and 5T as well as older OnePlus 3 and 3T as well. Another smartphone brand to achieve such a feat is HMD Global’ Nokia which has officially declared that it will launch the new Android Pie 9.0 update once it is available throughout its new Android series of smartphones starting Nokia 2 (chances of Nokia 1 receiving the updates are slim).
