‘Mission Impossible’ 7 & 8 Have Been Delayed

Paramount Films have decided to make certain changes to its 2020 production line-up. In a recent turn of events, a report published by Digital Spy suggests that the blockbuster production house has decided to postpone the release dates of the Tom Cruise-starrer ‘Mission: Impossible’ 7 and 8.

To recall, the seventh installment of the upcoming film was officially scheduled to release in July, 2021. The official release date, as per the tweet, was July 23, 2021. However, the production house has now delayed it by four months, bringing the release date to November 19. 2021. The good thing about this delay is the fact that the delay is not ridiculously late. Due to the current pandemic situation, many major films have been shelved, released half-baked or even postponed by a year’s time. Leading production houses including Sony, Marvel and Disney have had to postpone the release of some of the most highly-anticipated films. The list includes movies like, ‘Fast and Furious 9,’ ‘Avatar 2,’ and ‘Avengers 5’ to name a few.

The upcoming installments of ‘Mission: Impossible’ are possibly the first few films to have been directly impacted by the COVID-19 situation. The filming was on-going in Venice when news regarding Coronavirus haunting Italy came to light. This was during the month of February. Since the release date of ‘Mission: Impossible’ 7 is pushed by nearly four months, it is obvious that the release date of the eighth part will also be impacted. News sources suggest that ‘Mission: Impossible’ 8 has been pushed to August 5, 2022 as opposed to the original date, i.e. November 4, 2022. In this case, they have preponed the film, so that’s good news for Tom Cruise fans. The action-packed, Ethan Hunt-led film is not the only Tom Cruise movie that has been impacted. Another Cruise-starrer and equally-anticipated film, ‘Top Gun’ has also experienced a bit of delay. The movie is expected to release in July and we certainly do hope that it is not among those movies, which will also experience a delay in release.

Following the shutdown of filming of ‘Mission: Impossible’ 8 in February, an official spokesperson from the team stated that they have had to halt the filming as they were aware of the caution that is required to be undertaken in such a situation. They have put the safety and well-being of their cast and crew first. The spokesperson also officially thanked the efforts put in by the local Venetian government, as they halt every form of public gathering. The official further added that they will continue to monitor the situation and as things get better, production can be resumed in full-swing.

So far, what we do know about the cast is that Tom Cruise is going to be joined by Hollywood star, Pom Klementieff. For those unaware, the actor is known to have played well-known characters in movies like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and ‘Avengers.’ Other than that, actors such as Hayley Atwell, Nicholas Hoult and Shea Whigham will also be joining the team. It certainly is an exciting venture.
