Mindhunter Season 3 to be Withheld Indefinitely

Netflix put Mindhunter Season 3 on indefinite hold in January. This does not mean that the show is technically canceled. It is just dancing issues with terminated contracts of cast and crew. The chances of renewal seem slim if I do say so myself.

When the second season of this critically acclaimed crime-thriller came to Netflix earlier in 2019, fans wasted no time before binging through the season, and now the fate of season 3 is the question on everyone’s mind.

Good thing we’re here to answer.

Mindhunter Season 3 Release Date

Mindhunter’s first two seasons were released two years apart, and considering the amount of detail and extensive research put into making the show, even if the show does get renewed for a third season, it will be quite a while before we get to see it on our screens.

There’s also the situation regarding COVID-19 which has put all tv and movie productions on hold, and will most definitely delay the third season even more than expected, considering there even is a third season.

In case of season 3 is given the go-ahead, expect it’s the trailer to drop a few months before its release.

Mindhunter Season 3 Plot

Season 1 of Mindhunter took place in the late 1970s, with season 2 picking up during the early 1980s. Following the trend, season 3 might take place sometime during the mid-to-late 1980s. This means that infamous serial killers of the time like Ted Bundy, John Wayne Gacy, or Jeffrey Dahmer might make an appearance on the show.

Based on the real criminals that FBI agents John E. Douglas and Robert K. Ressler have interviewed in the past, it is speculated that we may see the likes of killers like John Joubert IV, Joseph Paul Franklin, Donald Harvey, and Gary Ridgway in the third season as well.

There are also a lot of plot holes surrounding Bill’s adopted son, Brian, that season 3 might pick up on.

Moreover, there is also the possibility that season 3 may take the show to a completely new place and set of characters. Only time will tell for sure.
