Pokémon Go recent update introduces the evolution items which will be used along with candies in order to evolve certain Pokémon. Metal coat can be used to evolve Scyther into Scizor and Onix into Steelix.

How to get a metal coat in Pokémon Go?
The Metal Coat can be found at the Pokestop. You can obtain it from spinning Pokestops and Gyms. The drop chance is quite low, almost around 1% per spin which ensures that you receive the evolution item like Metal Coat. It also gives you an equal chance to obtain each of the 5 currently available items.
You will have no source to ensure that the Metal Coat will drop, but in total there are only 5 items. So, once you have spun over 250 Pokestops, there is 50% chance that you’ll receive a Metal Coat.
You chance to obtain one of the evolution items is quite high at the 7th day streak bonus but it is still not guaranteed.
How to evolve Scyther into Scizor?
The player will have to first obtain a Scyther, the level makes no difference. Then they will need to get hold of a Metal Coat, which they will give to their Scyther. You will also need to have 50 candies. Once this is done, the player will have to trade their Scyther with another trainer. After this trade, the Scyther will turn into Scizor. Once the evolution is complete, the player can trade back and they will be officially in possession of the Scizor.
Scyther is a dual-type Bug/Flying Pokémon introduced in Generation I.
How to evolve Onix into Steelix?
In order to evolve your Onix into Steelix, like you did with Scyther, you will have to get hold of a Metal Coat. Give your Onix the Metal Coat, trade it with another trainer and this will finally trigger the evolution of Onix into Steelix. You will also need 50 candies. Steelix can also evolve during battles in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire into Mega Steelix.
Onix is a dual-type Rock/Ground Pokémon introduced in Generation I.
