Netflix is producing a musical that will adapt the classic story of Matilda.
We certainly did not expect this from Netflix. In a time when Netflix is only looking towards the future and producing some high-end, fast-action movies such as ‘The Extraction,’ we had little hopes of hoping the online-streaming platform would take a look at some old productions. Much to the surprise of many, the team at Netflix has decided to bring back an old classic that is sure to send the 90’s kids into feeling highly nostalgic. It is official that Netflix is working alongside West End production on bringing for its viewers, ‘Matilda: The Musical.’ There aren’t too many details that Netflix has been able to release regarding the upcoming musical, but online news sources has their hands on the latest updates.
A little more about ‘Matilda: The Musical’
The Netflix musical is expected to be directed by Matthew Warchus. Not many might be aware of this but the musical is based on the stage musical of the same name. The writer for this stage play is Dennis Kelly. We are not sure of the cast and other crew members as yet.
‘Matilda: The Musical’ release date
It’s just too early for Netflix to announce a release date to ‘Matilda: A Musical.’ They have not yet been able to provide us a specific date associated with the pre-production and post-production of the musical. However, just like many other series produced by Netflix, ‘Matilda: A Musical’ has also been effected by the current Coronavirus situation. Fans are speculating that the online-streaming platform may look at releasing the musical some time in 2021.
What’s the plot behind ‘Matilda: The Musical’
The musical is expected to follow the story of a young, intelligent and gifted five-year-old Matilda. She struggles a lot as her family members cannot match her intelligence level. At school, she can become friends with Miss Honey and decides to begin showing her intellectual power. However, the same is not appreciated by the headmistress of the school, Miss Trunchbull. Miss Trunchbull, as we all know, is very fond of punishing younger kids with some unimaginable things. Just like the classic movie, the musical will also cover the clash between Matilda and Miss Trunchbull.
Cast of ‘Matilda: The Musical’
One of the biggest announcements made in association with this musical is the fact that Harry Potter-famed, Ralph Fiennes is expected to join the Netflix-produced content. She will be playing the role of none other than the evil headmistress of Crunchem Hall Primary School, our beloved Miss Trunchbull. Other than that, news regarding the main characters remains unknown. We are still looking forward to updates and they are expected to arrive once the Coronavirus situation settles down.
