The Cheetah – a fictional supervillain emerging in DC Comics publications and relevant media, as the archenemy of the superhero Wonder Woman.
Warner Bros. released the latest trailer for Wonder Woman 1984 during the DC Fandom event online, providing their fans with the first real look at Kristen Wiig’s vicious Cheetah. The fans will get to watch a miraculously recovered Chris Pine (Steve Trevor) don chute pants to blend with the times, much to the entertainment of Gal Gadot’s Diana Prince.
Highly inspired by the humorous book heroine designed by William Moulton Marston in the 1940s for DC Comics, Wonder Woman made her big-screen appearance in the DCEU with 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, served by 2017’s Justice League.
As we stated earlier, the initial fell short of box office expectations; the 2nd one bombed outright. Therefore when Jenkins took on Wonder Woman’s origin story, she voluntarily departed from the sour humorlessness and dark sensibility of those pioneer films, bringing brighter energy and humor to her tale, along with the common activities. That thought paid off: Wonder Woman went on to gross $821M worldwide. It also earned critical raves, making it the most successful of the DCEU films so far.
Considering we are now in the 1980s, Diana is operating in a Cold War plot, taking on Pedro Pascal’s villainous Maxwell Lord, a clever and powerful businessman. Wiig performs as Barbara Ann Minerva, a British archaeologist who eventually evolves into her arch-nemesis Cheetah.
What does the trailer reveal?
The very first trailer released way back in December of last year, with Barbara and Diana having a heart-to-heart girl talk about long-lost loves. There was a fight in a local mall, with Diana negotiating to restore order, as walls of TVs start showing Lord giving a motivational pitch. We saw Steve and Diana work together again to prevent whatever evil plan is threatening the day. It got a few flashbacks to a young Diana facing in an Amazonian tournament. But we did not get to view Wiig in full Cheetah mode till now.
Kristen Wiig will be playing the role of an archaeologist Barbara Minerva ( a person who will turn into the villain) Cheetah. As in the trailer, we get to see that Barbara befriends Diana, only to have a face-off in the film.
