Kim Tae Hyung, known more popularly by his stage name V, is a South Korean singer and songwriter and the lead vocalist for the famous South Korean boy band BTS. He is the second-youngest member of the group.
Overview
V was born on December 30, 1995, in Daegu, South Korea. He stands 1.79m tall. He is the lead vocalist for BTS and the eldest of three children. He is the recipient of the Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit award (2018). His music is usually of the genres indie pop, R&B, soul, and k-pop.
Early Life
V grew up in Geochang County, and was the eldest of three children, having a younger brother and sister. He got inspired to become a singer when he was still in elementary school and he followed that inspiration by taking up saxophone lessons in middle school in order to be able to pursue his dream professionally. His father supported him greatly in his journey.
V graduated from Korean Arts High School in 2014 and later enrolled in Global Cyber University.
Struggles in Kim Tae Hyung or V’s Career
Kim Tae Hyung made his debut in June of 2013 as a member of BTS with their debut album 2 Cool 4 Skool. He got credited for the first time for co-writing and co-producing Hold Me Tight, a song from The Most Beautiful Moment in Life, Part 1.
Kim Tae Hyung’s first solo was a song called Stigma from the album Wings. His second solo, Singularity, which came out in 2018 was featured in The Guardian’s list of Top 50 Songs to listen to for the month of June 2018. Billboard placed Singularity on their list of top 50 BTS songs at the 28th position.
Later that year on October 24, V became the youngest recipient of the Hwagwan Order of Cultural Merit medal which was awarded to him by the President of South Korea.
His full solo track outside of BTS came in 2019 under the name Scenery, which broke records on the popular music streaming app, Soundcloud.
In 2020, V featured in a song called Sweet Night, a soundtrack of the drama Itaewon Class. The song placed No.2 on Billboard’s US Digital Songs sales chart, become the highest debut for a Korean artist in the chart’s history.
