WhatsApp is reportedly working on a fingerprint authentication feature

Based on a new update from WABetaInfo, the website that runs through all upcoming changes on WhatsApp, we could get a fingerprint-based authentication feature soon. This was conveyed in the Android 2.19.3 beta update for Android where WhatsApp has teased the new feature.

Forget about setting up PINs and password for WhatsApp which is possibly the largest instant messaging app across the globe with more than a billion user base and counting. As per Android 2.19.3 beta update that was released for beta testing, WhatsApp is testing out the fingerprint feature that allows the user to touch the ‘fingerprint’ sensor to access WhatsApp similar to accessing the phone. In case if the user is unable to access via touch due to any xyz reasons, there is an option to use device credentials to unlock the app too.

Facebook-owned WhatsApp is actually working on integrating Touch ID and Face ID which is access by fingerprint and facial recognition on iOS devices as well. However, the feature wasn’t available during beta testing due to some development reasons, however, be assured that users across Android and iOS devices will get their fair share of update soon that will fortify secrecy against unwanted prying eyes.

Ever since WhatsApp was rolled out in 2009 and later acquired by Facebook in 2014, the messaging app has seen a lot of features. At first, users were allowed to pretty much chat only may it be one-on-one chat or group chat. Then, we saw features like VoIP audio and video calls. Next, we saw that WhatsApp has been working to allow users to attach and send a host of different file formats right from audio, videos, photos, contacts, documents, and even location sharing.

There are plenty of other features that were rolled out recently as well. So, it is just a matter of time when WhatsApp finally rolls out the fingerprint-based authentication feature on both Android and iOS devices or at least the former for now. Stay tuned to know more about Tech on TeCake.
