Microsoft announces Project Scarlett with 120fps, 8K graphics & solid-stated drives

Before commencing with the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2019, Microsoft teased that it will announce the next-gen Xbox gaming console codenamed “Scarlett” which is the successor to the previous Xbox One introduced in 2013. Guess what? Project Scarlett brings a lot of things on the table weighing more on the Microsoft’s side when compared to upcoming PlayStation 5 from Sony.

According to the launch event, the Xbox Scarlett will support a refresh rate of up to 120 frames per second (FPS) which is twice the frequency of an average TV. This will allow smoother transitions while playing an immersive game like Halo. Moreover, Microsoft did mention that it will be transitioning over to a solid-state device from the older mechanical hard drives that will make the console faster allowing it to load games faster in return.

Xbox head Phil Spencer added, “A console should be built and optimized for one thing and one thing only: Gaming”. The console will probably include 8K graphics as well and will run on powerful AMD chips and overall, the console is estimated to be four times powerful than the Xbox One X.

The upcoming console is expected to hit the shelves early next year or say “Holiday 2020”. It will also bring Microsoft’s new controller which supports Bluetooth and has a rechargeable battery that lasts up to 40 hours on a single charge and is available at $179.99 on pre-orders.

Microsoft will introduce the next Xbox along with its upcoming space war game Halo Infinite that was teased during the conference as well.

There is an ongoing competition between the two bigwigs i.e. Microsoft which is getting ready to showcase its Project Scarlett while Sony, on the other hand, is also working on an improved and next-gen PlayStation 5. Although Sony would attend the E3 gaming conference every year, it recently resorted to not attending it and have its own conference itself which is a big move from the tech giant.

The gaming industry is booming and so are the companies trying to take their share of the pie. Back in March, Google introduced its new online gaming service called Stadia that offers many titles while allowing players to stream the gameplay online similar to how they watch movies and sitcoms on Netflix. Apple is also working on a gaming service as well although Sony and Microsoft are assured since the internet isn’t reliable in all parts of the world that’ll make playing games online a not-so-preferable choice.
