Hydroxychloroquine: Will India support the US with unproven ‘corona drug’?

Coronavirus pandemic is spreading all over the globe rapidly and sadly has taken more than 70,320 deaths. Scientist and health experts from many countries are preparing a vaccine to cure of this pandemic. But, no drugs are prepared yet. Meanwhile, the US President Donald Trump gave the statement about the cure of this terrible epidemic. As per the report, Donald Trump has suggested the use of the hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) drug as a treatment for the fatal Coronavirus.

There are also many reports which suggest that the US has also reached out to India for help and also to lift the ban on exports of hydroxychloroquine drugs which was imposed by India on March 26.

Not only Trump but Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro and several other state leaders also want India to lift restrictions on exports of what is considered to be the wonder drug to cure Coronavirus. Some of our news sources also reported that an order of 10 crore tablets with IPCA laboratories and Zydus Cadila has been placed by the Indian Government.
As per the US National Library of Medicine,

Chloroquine phosphate drug is widely used to treat malaria; that is why it is called antimalarials and amebicides drug. They further added that Chloroquine phosphate is commonly used to alleviate the rheumatoid arthritis symptoms and to treat systemic and discoid scleroderma, lupus erythematosus, lichen planus, polymyositis, pemphigus, and sarcoidosis.

The Government of US agrees that Hydroxychloroquine tablets can function as a prophylactic, a disease-preventing drug, for health workers working in hospitals as frontline and as first responders to potential cases of Coronavirus infection.
Although all of this is happening, there is still no scientific evidence to prove that hydroxychloroquine is indeed the correct medicine for Coronavirus response. It might be but has not been proven medically that this tablet works to cure this terrible epidemic. And without side effects which may be harmful.

Chloroquine, however, isn’t healthy for everyone. This is not generally recommended for those with heart arrhythmia, or anyone with kidney or liver problems.
