How to Get a Better Night’s Sleep

Sleep is essential for your physical and mental health, but many people do struggle to get a good night’s sleep. There are a lot of things that can keep you up at night, whether that is worrying about things that are going on in your life, making mental to-do lists, and even struggling to get comfortable enough to drift off into sleep. If you have recently been finding it tough to sleep through the night, and you want to stop feeling tired and cranky, here are some tips that could help you out.

Make Sure You’re Getting Enough Exercise

When you’re feeling tired, the thought of doing any physical activity might be enough to make you groan. However, getting enough exercise throughout the day is a great way to improve your sleep at night. It will help you to expel any excess energy you might have, which will help you drift off at night. Exercise can also help to boost your mood, making you less likely to feel stressed or anxious at night, which often keeps people awake. If you can get outside and incorporate some fresh air into your exercise routine, that’s even better!

Get a New Mattress and Pillows

Another reason you might be tossing and turning all night long is that your mattress is not giving you the right support. If you are uncomfortable, this will make it harder for you to sleep, and you might even find that you’re waking up with aches and pains each morning. It’s always smart to test a mattress in-store before you buy one, as this will give you a better indication of how supportive it will truly be for you. You might also want to look into getting better pillows or even something like this neck pillow to support your head and keep your body better aligned throughout the night.

Limit Screen Time Before Bed

How often do you feel tired but convince yourself to watch just one more episode, or video clip, or scrolling through social media, to suddenly find that three hours fly by, and you don’t get to sleep until the early hours of the morning? It’s easily done, but this can seriously impact your sleep cycle and leave you feeling exhausted in the morning. This is why having a cut-off time for screens can be a good idea, preferably an hour before you would like to go to bed. Instead, choose a more relaxing activity like reading, writing in your journal, meditation, or even listening to some soothing music to help you relax and switch off.

Shower, Bath, and Fragrance

Some people find that a shower first thing in the morning can perk them up, but a hot shower or bath before bed can also help you to feel more relaxed. If you are struggling to sleep, consider trying to incorporate this into your nighttime routine, even if it’s just a couple of times a week, and see if that helps. You might also want to think about using linen sprays or a diffuser in your bedroom, choosing scents such as lavender that are calming and is associated with promoting better sleep.

It’s very important to make sure that you are getting enough sleep each night, and if this is something that you have been struggling with lately, use these tips to see if they can help you turn that around.

  1. Very good tips that I use regularly. I especially like physical activity during training and a hot bath. Sometimes, for relaxation, I allow myself a visit to this spa, where a pleasant atmosphere and favorite procedures restore strength.
