The story of Game of Thrones is based on the bestselling book series titled “The Song of Ice and Fire”, by R.R. Martin. It was released on HBO and Hotstar. GOT ran for 8 successful seasons and all of them were critically acclaimed. However, the ending of the show did not satisfy the viewers. The last few episodes from season 8 were quite disappointing for the fans. Nonetheless, Game of Thrones has won 59 Emmy Awards out of 160 nominations.

What was the lie that brought Game of Thrones on HBO?

You must have gotten from the previous section, how huge Game of Thrones was. Hence it seems unreal to even think that the show might not have been created at all. But to our luck, we had this amazing series because of one lie. Recently, the showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss revealed that they had to lie to keep the show running. Apparently, the HBO executives and the creators of GOT were uncertain about whether it would work. Moreover, it was a tough decision for HBO as it had already suffered a loss of $100 million in “Rome”.

The truth was revealed in James Hibberd’s book about the making of Game of Thrones, named “Fire cannot Kill a Dragon”. The book disclosed that David Benioff and D.B. Weiss admitted about lying to HBO about the content of GOT. Benioff said, “The show was exactly what we told them it wasn’t. The lie we told was that the show was ‘contained’ and it was about the characters.”

Apparently, showrunners took a risk by tricking HBO for streaming the story. They said, “We knew most of the people making the decisions were not going to read four thousand pages and get to the dragons getting bigger.” Weiss said, “We were banking on them not finding out until it was too late.”

However, the victory of the show was worth the risk. Today, Game of Thrones is one of the best drama series of all time.
