‘Halo 3’ and other Xbox 360 ‘Halo’ titles is ending next year!

Seven of the Halo games is available on the Xbox 360 will be losing its online functionality soon in the coming year. This was announced by 343 Industries, that the entire Halo franchise on the Xbox 360 is going offline.

This decision was made viral soon after the developer publicly announced the end of the journey of Halo: The Master Chief Collection from console to PC. This had limited the collection of the Halo franchise at one place.

When will Halo Xbox 360 go offline?

According to an official Twitter announcement made by the team Halo, the tweet read that “Halo Xbox 360 services are going offline in December 2021. Games remain playable indefinitely, but some experiences will be impacted.” The tweet was released on December 19, 2020.

Will this affect the launch of Halo Infinite?

Halo Infinite is scheduled to launch in Fall 2021, as announced by 343 Industries after it was significantly pushed back from its Series X|S launch title slot. It is an upcoming first-person shooter game which has been developed by 343 Industries and is the sixth main entry of the Halo series, and the fourteenth Halo game overall.

According to 343, Halo Infinite is “the biggest and most ambitious Halo game ever created”. The game takes place in Halo Ring which is twice the combined size of the last two Halo games. It will release on Xbox One as well as Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. The delay in the release is “to ensure the team has adequate time to deliver a Halo game experience that meets our vision.” It will have better quality global illumination and ambient occlusion.

What are the Halo titles that will go offline?

According to the tweet, the titles which will be affected are: Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST, Halo Wars, Halo: Reach, Spartan Assault, Halo 4 and Halo Combat Evolved Anniversary.

343 has said that, “Maintaining these legacy services today requires significant time and resources which directly impacts the studio’s ability to support current and future projects like Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Halo Infinite.” Hence, the developers have decided to discontinue the Xbox 360 Halo titles in the coming years, to ensure this change.
