Google announced the Google Maps Material design update at the Google I/O Conference last month. The update was made available only for few selected devices but Google has started rolling out updates for its Google Maps app slowly and steadily thereby introducing new features and rich user interface. The latest update that will be available on Android devices from now looks completely different from earlier updates as it shows the new and revamped ‘Explore’ tab with plenty of categories to check for places nearby and more.
The app shows new buttons, icons, and colorful tabs against a plain white background. The ‘Explore’ tab got new buttons, icons, colors, and features. Now, the user can check out nearby places such as museums, restaurants, malls, or select any category of interest in the same city or neighboring or any other city they wish to visit soon. The new update recommends restaurants, bars, and reviews from local experts which makes it easier for tourists or even locals to visit the place without further ado.
One of the coolest features on the Google Maps update is called ‘Your Match’ which is a machine learning technique-based feature that evaluates person’s location history and determines the percentage rating if the user will like the place (searching for) or not. You can also rate the places that will be further added to the machine learning for other users to follow.
If you are a foodie or someone who loves food, this new update is a powerful tool as it lets the user check out the restaurants and food joints trending in their cities or the place they are visiting under ‘For You’ tab which is now available for Canada, Japan, U.S., U.K, Australia and other countries will soon join the wagon. The app also tracks all the events and activities happening nearby so that you can things to do everytime you check out Google Maps. Google has unveiled the new update for Android devices and for iOS users too.
