Finally, Google’ Android 9 Pie is here and it is officially rolling out for Google Pixel devices this Monday. Google announced the beta version of Android P where the ‘P’ remained a question for months and it was kept a secret for months even after Google unveiled several beta versions. People curated a list of potential dessert name starting with ‘P’ that Google could choose such as Pancake, Pie, Popsicle, and others. Finally, Google chooses Android Pie for its ninth iteration of the largest smartphone operating system which accounts for nine out of ten smartphones on the face of the Earth.
For those smartphones that have signed up for Android Beta program including the latest OnePlus 6 and each flagship smartphone from HMD Global, Vivo, Essential, Sony Mobile, and Xiaomi will receive the update this fall followed by other smartphones. Android 9 Pie has some great improvements over the other Android OSes as it is more attuned to provide the highest level of security and privacy to the user along with facilitating smartphones to work faster while saving battery life which is a precious commodity.
Starting Monday, Google Pixel devices will start getting the update via OTA where they will get plenty of features like notch support which have become a norm after Apple iPhone X popularized the same last year. Soon, it was reiterated in Huawei, Xiaomi, Vivo, and a bunch of other smartphones and with Android Pie, the apps will work smoothly irrespective if the device has a notch or not. Apart from that, the Android P brings adaptive battery feature that works with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) that scans and records the battery consumptions and provide the best output based on the analysis. It works towards accelerating the speed and efficiency of the device which is a great news of devices with entry-level specs.
Android Pie brings a number of AI tools along with such as smart replies which work with the help of AI which reads the context of the message and provides smart replies according to the message received. Further, AI helps pull out only the related information from the internet thereby eliminating the needs to go through tonnes of web pages and websites on the website to get the required information. Further, Android Pie brings newer gesture navigation similar to Apple iPhone X where a central button doubles as a home button, calls Google Assistant as well as open recent plus similar to how Apple iPhones work with just a single home button.
Android Pie has a feature that helps user combat tech addiction which is something Facebook and Instagram have come up with along with Apple that will roll out the said feature in its official iOS 12 release. Now that Google has officially rolled out its Android Pie, it depends on how smartphones manufacturers and carriers would response and provide the update to the users since Android updates follow a protocol called ‘fragmentation’ unlike Apple will rolls out updates to its devices directly and has already updated 81 percent of the iPhones and iPads to the latest iOS version.
On the other hand, Android Oreo has only 12.1 percent market share in terms of smartphones with Oreo while a massive 75 percent of the total devices have Lollipop, Marshmallow, and Nougat operating system where the oldest Lollipop OS was unveiled back in 2014.
