King Kong and Godzilla are without a doubt the most iconic gigantic monsters ever to haunt the big screen, with each having millions of fans to their name. Each behemoth has had quite a few movies and reboots to their name over the years, but recently Warner Bros have decided to take a new but not-so-unique approach to the films.
Over the course of three movies – Godzilla, Kong: Skull Island, and Godzilla: King of the Monsters, which are all interconnected, Warner Bros have created a universe that fans are calling the Monsterverse, whose sole purpose seems to be to somehow bring Godzilla and Kong both into the same movie and pit the two against each other rather than having separate solo features.
This is exactly what Godzilla vs Kong, the fourth movie in the Monsterverse franchise will be doing, and the hype it has built is real. It is hard to argue the fact that Kong makes a better, more interesting partner for Godzilla than Mutos, similarly how Godzilla is a more formidable opponent for Kong than a Skullcrawler.
Here’s all you need to know about the upcoming movie.
Godzilla vs Kong: Release Date
The movie is set to hit theatres on May 21, 2021. The initial release was in November 2020 but the COVID-19 situation caused a significant delay in production.
Filming for the movie wrapped in April 2019. It is currently in the post-production stage.
No trailer has released for Godzilla vs Kong. We may expect the official trailer to release a couple of months prior to release. However, there are some really nicely edited fanmade teasers you can catch on YouTube.
Godzilla vs Kong: The Plot
Not much is known of the actual plot for the upcoming movie, however, as the title suggests, we will definitely get two see Godzilla and Kong battle head-on. Whether it’s a battle to the death or a result of some misunderstanding is anyone’s guess. It’s more likely to be the latter of the two outcomes since, gathering from earlier movies, it’s unlike either of the giants to go on a killing spree unnecessarily. It might be human influence that pits the two against each other in the first place.
An earlier synopsis released for the movie indicates that the movie takes place in the near future in which humans have learned to co-exist with the Titans, with Monarch overseeing operations. It might be that opposing factions trying to harness the power of the titans for destructive purposes might set off a chain of events that bring Kong face-to-face with Godzilla in the first place.
Rest assured, the movie will be action-packed and full of ground-shaking, mind-blowing CGI.
