Far Cry is a charter of first-person shooter games, all of which were issued by Ubisoft. The initial game, Far Cry, was produced by Crytek to launch its CryEngine software and was released in March 2004. Consequently, Ubisoft acquired the rights to the franchise, and the majority of the development is managed by Ubisoft Montreal with assistance from other Ubisoft satellite studios.
The fur parts of the games in the group have used a Ubisoft-modified version of the CryEngine, the Dunia Engine, allowing for open-world gameplay. The main 5 games in the line, along with three standalone extensions; the first game, originally developed for Microsoft Windows, also saw many ports to video game consoles.
