Derry Girls is renewed for season 3, production to resume soon

The Northern Irish comedy Derry girls is returning for the third season. Channel 4 renewed the series for the third season back in April 2020. While the filming was to start in June, it was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to series star Nicola Coughlan.

In October 2020, Erin actress Saoirse-Monica Jackson on the show remarked that, “We’ve been pushed [filming] now a couple of times, and I think we are going to push again.” Hence, the production is now infinitely delayed.

Tommy Tiernan, a cast member has also suggested the coming season could potentially be the show’s “last” ever before it wraps up. A spin-off of the show is also in discussion owing to the popularity of the show.

While the second season is available for streaming on Channel 4’s All 4, the arrival of the show on Netflix has been delayed.

Derry Girls is a British sitcom created and written by Lisa McGee and produced by Hat Trick Productions. The premise of the show is set during The Troubles in Northern Ireland in the 1990s. Here’s what you need to know about the coming season.

What can we expect from Derry Girls season 3?

While Derry Girls Season 3 was previously expected to be released on Channel 4 this year, the ongoing pandemic has put the production on hold. The long hiatus has delayed the release of season 3, and it is not expected to drop until late 2021.

Will Erin and James get together in season 3?

In the ending sequence of Derry Girls season 2, the Northern Irish city is visited by the US President (in the year, 1995) . The surprise moment was James (Dylan Llewellyn) who reunites with his friends. He had decided to leave the town but he returns. The pals reunite amidst the crowd who have gathered to hear their President address the political conflict in Ireland in the 1990s.

The budding romance of James and Erin is  at the center of the second season of Derry Girls. For the third season, fans wish to see this pair come together.
