Early Life:
Blake Tollison Shelton was born on June 18, 1976, in Ada, Oklahoma. His parents were a beauty salon director, Dorothy, and a used car dealer, Richard Shelton.
He started singing as a child. He had learned to play the guitar with the help of his uncle by the age of 12. By 15, Shelton had composed his first song. He won an Oklahoma Denbo Diamond Award when he was 16. Shelton moved to Nashville to pursue his singing career when he was 17.
Music Career:
He signed a recording deal with Giant Records in 2001 after about six years in Nashville. He was supposed to release a single called “I Wanna Talk About Me,” but it was deemed unsuitable for his first single by label employees, and the song was recorded by Toby Keith, who went on to make it a Number 1 Billboard hit.
Blake’s first single, “Austin,” spent five weeks on the Billboard Hot Country chart at number 1. Giant Records closed down soon after, while Shelton was sold to Warner Bros. Documents. Shelton is a philanthropist who gave $20,000 in October 2013 to the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation. In 2016, he contributed $600,000 to the Jimmy Everest Center for children with blood cancer and blood disorders at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine.
