City on a Hill season 2: Showtime renews the show for season 2

The premium cable network, SHOWTIME announced on August 2, 2019 that City on a Hill is renewed for season 2. This renewal comes ahead of the finale of season 1 which aired on August 18, 2019. The announcement of season 2 was made at the Television Critics Association summer press tour.

Created and executive produced by Chuck MacLean with Tom Fontana as the showrunner and executive producer, the Boston crime drama City on a Hill is set in the early 1990s Boston which is rife with criminal activities. The co-president of entertainment for Showtime Networks, Gary Levine believes that the show has a long running successful future set for it. Gary Levine remarks: “With the inspired pairing of Kevin Bacon and Aldis Hodge and the inspired writing of Tom Fontana and Chuck MacLean, we believe there is a rich future for this compelling series.”

While the show was expected to start the production soon after, it is likely that the ongoing pandemic has significantly delayed the production.

Who is expected to return to City on a Hill season 2?

As per the reports, Bacon is expected to lead the cast of City on a Hill season 2 as corrupt FBI agent Jackie Rohr. Aldis Hodge is likely to return as District Attorney Decourcy Ward. Decourcy and Rohr team up to take down the criminals.

Jonathan Tucker is likely to return as Frankie Ryan, Mark O’Brien will return as Jimmy Ryan and Amanda Clayton will return as Cathy Ryan, among the other cast members. A number of new faces have been added to the cast of season 2.

Other cast members who are expected to make an appearance in season 2 are Rory Culkin as Clay Roach, Cathy Moriarty as Ma Ryan and Michaela McManus as FBI Agent Sarah Rhodes.

As per the reports, Matthew Del Negro is now promoted to series regular.

What happens in the ending sequence of Season 1 of City on a Hill?

Showtime crime drama City on a Hill finale had hit a solid ending. Episode 10 of Season 1, titled as “Mayor Curley and the Last Hurrah” is a cliffhanger episode which sets up the events for season 2.

By the end of season 1, we see Jackie celebrating another moment in the spotlight. But he is also ridden with a pang of guilt which makes him reflect on his legacy. Meanwhile, Decourcy makes sound plan to finally carry out justice for the murdered guards.

We see Jimmy struggling to make his way out of the mess he has created. For this he is even ready to jeopardize his brother’s future. Also, Jenny is troubled with the events of her past, and how she makes her out of this will be explored in season 2 of City on a Hill.
