Career
O’Dowd started his career working for the group Bow Wow Wow, which he left later on to start his own band, the Culture Club. After many setbacks and demos get unnoticed, the band eventually ends up getting represented by Virgin Records and Epic Records, and together they have released their debut album in 1982, Kissing to be Clever. One of the album’s singles, hit the top charts across the globe and has the rank of #2 in the US.
Culture Club followed Kissing to be Clever with their next album, Colour by Numbers, which was an even bigger success than its predecessor when it came out in 1983. It contained hits like Church of the Poison Mind and Karma Chameleon, which topped charts in the US.
Their third album, Waking up With the House on Fire which has released in 1984, hadn’t as well-received but still managed to get one popular hit, The War Song.
By the late 80’s George had become quite a controversial figure and had developed a drug addiction. The Culture Club disbanded after releasing their fourth album, From Luxury to Heartache.
Boy George made a comeback in 1922 with his single US chart-topper, The Crying Game, which was the soundtrack of the movie of the same name. It was his first single that became a major success.
