Big little lies might not get a season 3, Casey Bloys talks about the future of the show

Big Little Lies season 3 is not confirmed yet. The second season was premiered in July 2019, and the series has not been greenlit for a third season till now.

It was rumoured that Andrea Arnold, who helmed the second season taking ahead of the legacy of Jean-Marc Vallée as a director is busy with other projects. Because of this, she has lost the “creative control” of this drama series. Vallée remained on the team as executive co-producer of the show.

As per the reports, “a number of factors have forced close the production” of the series. But HBO warded away such rumours and added that “We at HBO and the producers are extremely proud of her (Arnold) work.”

Season one had premiered on February 2017, and the second season followed in June 2019. Season 2 did not receive as much appreciation as season one, which is being considered as one of the reasons why the fate of the show is ambiguous.

Will there be a season 3 of Big Little Lies?

Casey Bloys, the Programming head of HBO adds, “I love this group of people – I would do anything with them. But the reality is, they are some of the busiest actresses working in Hollywood.”

As Bloys speaks about the tightly packed schedule of the cast members of Big Little Lies, it appears that there is no chance of the renewal of the show at present.

But before you lose faith altogether, Bloys did say that he hadn’t ruled it out: “If they all came to me and said, ‘We worked out all of our schedules’ – then sure. But I just don’t think it’s realistic.”

Bloys further adds the season 2 was produced with the end in mind. “Season two was a chance for everyone involved to end [the franchise] in a way that feels satisfying.” This further reinforces the idea that the series might not get a season 3.

But, since the third season has not been officially ruled out, it appears that if the schedule works out for everybody, the producers will go ahead with it. This might be the reason why the series producers are not releasing something concrete about the future of the show.

Who will come back to season 3 of Big Little Lies?
