It seems that after a ton of delays, we finally have a release date set in stone for Avatar 2. Avatar which released way back in 2009 took the world by storm with its mind-blowing CGI and portrayal of Pandora, the planet where the movie was set in. Shortly after, Avatar 2 was confirmed, initially rumoured to release in 2014. It has been more than a decade now since the first Avatar movie and we still haven’t seen Avatar 2, let alone Avatar 3,4, and 5 which were also promised to be released, all before 2020.
The production team has assured us, however, that when the movie finally releases the wait would have been worth it, and honestly, we agree. Avatar one was the highest-grossing movie of all time in the Box Office for a whopping ten years before Avengers Endgame knocked it out, and it was so for good reason.
Now that a release date that might not be delayed any further finally is announced, here’s all you need to know about the upcoming sequel.
Avatar 2 Release Date
Part 2 is all set to release on December 16, 2022, after being delayed several times. The most recent of which was it’s shift from December 2021 to December 2022. The movie was initially set to release in 2014, with the next three sequels all planned for consecutive years. It seems now that instead of seeing Avatar 5 in theatres in 2018 we’ll be waiting for 2022 for just Avatar 2.
Expect the trailers to arrive a month or so before the movie premiere.
Avatar 2 Plot
As for the plot, filmmaker David Cameron has stated that each of the Avatar sequels will have a plot of their own, which does not depend on any of its prequels. This means that someone who hasn’t seen Avatar 1 will still be able to understand and enjoy Avatar 2 or even Avatar 3 since although the characters might be recurring each movie will cover a different aspect of the world.
Avatar 2 will be set several years after the events of its prequel and will show Sully and Neytiri as rulers of their clan. Some say the story might be focussed on the adventures of their children.
