Plot
Atypical is set in Connecticut and follows the life of an 18-year-old named Sam. He suffers from mild autistic spectrum disorder. As Sam gets older, he evolves and becomes more independent. We know most stories of people suffering from autism or other disorders follows with it, some sympathy, empathy and people doing favours for them. But things get a different turn in Atypical. We see Sam dealing with problems faced by a normal teenager. He goes through broken friendships, going off to college, graduating, self-discovery and most importantly, his search for a real relationship.
We can also witness not just the struggles of Sam but also his family. Casey, his sister who has moved to a new college after receiving scholarship feels unwelcome there. His mother who is desperate for a life other than being her son’s guardian begins having an affair with a bartender whom she meets during a night out. And his father who is going through betrayal and disappointment is still shown as an epitome of patience.
The final season ended in a happy note although few things are yet to be solved. All the characters have finally settled, and the fourth season will pick up from here showing them all dealing with a new life and experiences.
