Alita Battle Angel 2: Disney is not ready to plan a sequel, James Cameron reveals

Alita: Battle Angel 2 might not get a sequel soon even though the plan is being considered. After Disney’s acquisition of Fox, Disney will decide the fate of this franchise if it will get a sequel anytime soon.

After the theatrical release of Alita: Battle Angel on 8th of February, 2019, fans have signed a petition for a sequel. According, to recent reports, there was a series of billboards in Los Angeles to make a demand for a sequel. As per the reports, fans funded a plane to fly over the Oscars red carpet in 2020 to make this sequel happen.

Rosa Salazar reveals that the movie has not received a go ahead, even though James Cameron and Robert Rodriguez had a plan in mind for the sequel.

What can we expect from the sequel of Alita:Battle Angel?

Alita: Battle Angel is an action/ sci-fi movie which is extensively based on Yukito Kishiro’s series Gunnm, written in 1990s. The original video animation was released in 1993.

In the first movie, Alita, the cyborg establishes herself as the hero of the Iron City. While the first movie was planned in 2013, it was finally released after a long wait in 2019. As of now, the sequel is not greenlit. James Cameron had hinted that they are discussing the plan with a public statement released on February 6, 2019.

Rodriguez is also keen to develop a sequel. He adds, “There’s like one whole document about the trilogy. Because that’s just part of his process. ‘Here are three movies. Just so you know what to include in the first story and whatnot’.”

This establishes that the producers are not out of ideas, but they need a green signal from Disney to go ahead with the plans. The first movie had a number of cliffhangers towards the end. We sure do want to know How Zalem survives the Fall and what happens to Alita between the Fall and her landing in the junk heap of Iron City.

Is there any footage available for Alita: Battle Angel 2 available?

It will be some while before any footages are available. As of now, we are waiting for Disney to seal the sequel for the 2019 movie.

Who is expected to return in the sequel?

We can expect the major characters to be back in the sequel. This includes Rosa Salazar as Alita, Christopher Waltz as Dr. Dyson Ido, Jennifer Connelly in the role of Chiren, Mahershala Ali as Vector, Ed Skrein in the role of Zapan, Keean Johnson in the role of Hugo and Eiza Gonzalez will return as Nyssiana.
