A Silent Voice is an animated Japanese drama that came out in 2016. The story is based on a manga by Yoshitoki Oima under the same name. The movie has one of the most heart-warming stories and is also portrayed extremely well. At the time of release, the film was placed only behind yet another incredibly touching animated Japanese movie titled “Your Name”. Although the movie came out on September 17th, 2016, it had already made over 2.2 billion in japan by November 30th. Bringing the worldwide earnings to an impressive $33 million.
Apart from the money the film grossed, A Silent Voice received several major accolades. Directed by Naoko Yamada, the movie won the Best Animation Feature Film at the 2016 Japanese Movie Critics Awards. The Excellent Animation of the Year and Best Anime of the Year was also picked up by the movie in 2017.
What to expect from A Silent Voice?
Although the movie was basically a single part movie, it’s still well worth a watch and can even send you to tears within the first ten minutes of the movie. The manga which the movie is based on has two parts but both parts combined to form the movie.
A Silent Voice is a touching story about the relationship between two high school students Shoyo and Shoko. Shoko happens to be deaf and because of that she gets bullied and made fun of in her new class. The bullying goes out of hand and eventually, word gets to the principal. Shoyo ends up getting singled out and eventually, Shoko ends up transferring to a different school. One thing leads to another and Shoyo tries to make amends for what he put Shoko through. He even goes to the point of contemplating suicide. The story follows the rebuild of their relationship after they mature later on in life.
Miyu Iruno lends his voice for the part of Shoyo while Saori Hayami lends his for Shoko. Other voice actors in the series include Aoi Yuki, Kensho Ono, Yui Ishikawa and Megumi Han.

Can we expect a sequel?
Although a sequel would be extremely unlikely, A Silent Voice is extremely emotional and definitely worth the watch. It shows us several life lessons that we should be incorporating into our own lives as well. At times we do things on an impulse and end up regretting it for several years after that. This movie is a visual representation of decisions like that but also brings a nice mix of several emotions into the mix.
