15th February was one of the most-awaited days for Indians and global astronomer communities, as ISRO was on the verge of creating a new world record. And to everyone’s surprise, the India-based space agency also marked the record by successfully dispatching a suite of 104 satellites into space. While the accomplishment of the mega launch event has still kept on overwhelming a number of international space agencies up until now, the India Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has started moving on a new path. Now the agency eyes on visiting the second and fourth planet of the solar system – Venus and Mars respectively.
While for Venus, it will be ISRO’s first trip, to Mars, the mission will be second. Earlier, ISRO has already conducted the Mars explorations by its “Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) in 2013 and MOM-2 will be ISRO’s second attempt to explore the Red Planet. Alongside these two ambitious missions, ISRO also has proposed the exploration mission to space for discovering new asteroids and exoplanets.
As confirmed by ISRO’s Chairperson A.S Kiran Kumar, The agency is currently gearing up to submit its proposed mission for visiting Venus and revising Mars in front of the government astronomer panel. However, the confirmed timeline for both missions of ISRO are yet to be publicised. While the ‘Mangalyaan 2’ – ISRO’s second interplanetary mission to explore Mars is scheduled to have effect by 2020, the Indian Venusian orbiter mission is proposed to come to pass between 2017 and 2020.
Following the success of Chandrayaan and the Mars Orbiter Mission, a group of ISRO’s astronomers are currently studying the practicability of potential interplanetary missions to Mars and Venus. Currently, the proposals for the arrangement of such interplanetary missions are under discussion and are expected to come to pass by 2020. In its annual budget for 2017-18, Indian Government has already allotted a whopping 23% increment for the Department of Space for conducting Mars Orbiter Mission II and Mission to Venus, and soon India will witness another milestone of its space agency.Tags: ISRO, mars, venus
